The card seems picky about the transceivers you connect. My 10GbE copper transceiver "matches" but it shows a line speed of 10Gb/s, even though it's currently connected to a 1Gb/s switch and refuses to change the line speed via ethtool . The adapter also thinks the transceiver is connected via fiber and there doesn't seem to be any way to dissuade it from that notion (hence probably refusing to slow down the connection). In this misconfigured state, the adapter connects but has a very low transfer rate, on the order of a few megabits. TL;DR: If you're building a home lab and using copper, choose something else, although I suspect if you're using fiber this will perform like a champ. However, I do not use fiberglass.
