Review on Original Monster Master MM LP 001 S4 Pinch-Off by Robert Pearson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Basic, simple tools every household needs

We call these channel locks, many call them locking pliers and many call them after the original brand vise clamps. These things are really versatile and smart, with a lower jaw that snaps "over the middle," grips a bit tightly but "unlocks" easily. You can apply much more force than pliers, apply it in a controlled manner which makes what you're holding less likely to damage or destroy, and it stays clamped without interference. Some use them as a temporary doorknob or control. You can use them in plumbing, welding or just when you can't find the right size wrench. I personally use them often when a bolt breaks. This brand is clearly budget, and there is nothing wrong with that. Every household needs some basic tools and this is definitely one of those tools. The handle on the Monster and Master has a nice finger grip that I've never seen on other brands. They would help rotate the pliers if you had wet or gloved hands and they look cool. I like the variety of sizes, especially the slim ones that look like "pin noses". None of them are huge, but they will work with every household or automotive task I've ever come across. The little ones are great and have wandered into my glove box where they will surely come in handy. The other two have (unfortunately) come in handy for some of my AC-related tasks. All I can say from holding them in my hands is that they are not the best quality. They don't weigh that much, the coating is uneven, almost like an orange peel, the instrument wobbles a little more than the best versions. On the other hand, the tools are well assembled, the bolts that hold the tool together are secure, don't move, and I believe if I don't push them to extremes they will last the rest of my life. those applications that these tools can damage. Hold the bolt and hit it with a sledgehammer. Applying torque with a cheat bar. Turning the adjusting screw with a wrench to actually fix something. These are applications that can be managed with a very expensive tool. Because of this, the metal bends and the tool fails. In this case, of course, you only lose a few dollars. If you have an unforeseen situation, you might think that the tool is a fair price. So they are hard to beat. There is nothing dangerous or wrong here. These are honest, simple tools, great for those who don't have the money to invest in great tools, they may not be sure they'll be using them that often, but they'd rather have them on hand for a rainy day to have. Smoothly turning the adjustment, unscrewing the screw, opening the tool again. They feel light in my hands, but they also feel good, are precisely finished and I intend to rely on them for a long time.

Pros
  • Vise handles and locking pliers
Cons
