I bought this in preparation for the fall/winter season so I can quickly put it on to take my dog outside. It's perfectly warm and fluffy, just like I was hoping for! I wear it both indoors and outdoors and it keeps me warm even with just a t-shirt underneath! The only disappointment is the length. It's on my hips, but I can see any t-shirts or tank tops I've worn underneath, and when my hands are in my pockets, they're sticking out of the hem. Otherwise the medium size (5ft 3in and 180lbs) was perfect for me, but if you want something that is tunic length or extra large for maximum comfort when worn with leggings I would definitely recommend going up a size or two to take bigger.
