Damp wood strong smell of damp wood

These trays are made from raw wood, have a strong raw wood smell and feel cheap. They are very light, like a cork oak. I have to sand, sand and seal before I can use them as I am sensitive to certain smells. I find the wood smell too strong but hopefully sealing the wood will help.
