Stops working after 6 weeks

Bought this cable for car use. He looked fat, strong and durable. Cable stopped working after 2 months. It won't charge my phone or connect to my CarPlay. My son noticed that the metal at the zipper opening was scored and looked "toasted". 😬. I think that's why it doesn't work anymore.
