It was so easy to put together and once assembled it was strong enough to hold DVDs and Blu-rays, which is basically what it was designed for. Please note that the depth given in the product image refers to the base plate and not the depth of the shelves. They are only slightly deeper than the width of the DVD case. The base intentionally protrudes further than the rest of the shelf and that purpose is to prevent it from tipping forward when you load the shelves with whatever you put on them. I'm pretty good at assembling this type of furniture as almost all the cabinets, shelves and entertainment centers I have and have had in the past are exactly the same. But seriously, this isn't a genius-level puzzle. Just read the instructions and be patient. You'll need a Phillips screwdriver (don't use a cordless screwdriver unless you want to break the screws when attaching the bottom) and a hammer. Also, be sure to read the metrics. This is not a very large rack. It's perfect for the space I needed it for.
