Money Well Spent!: Kitchen Utensils and Gadgets

This was a purchase I will never regret. There are mixed reviews for this product, but in my experience I've had perfect spaetzles from the very first time. I found the Norpro 3129 Stainless Steel Spaetzle Maker to be very easy to use and fairly easy to clean. First spaetzle. Some say the recipe on the box is perfect, others say it's not. I compared my spaetzle recipe, which is passed down from generation to generation, and the difference to the recipe on the packet was half the number of servings. The package also required an extra egg. I used what worked for years and the dough went through the holes just fine. I had to cut the spaetzle open from below several times because they didn't always fall off. It got easier as I learned to move the basket back and forth properly. Further cleaning - I immediately doused all surfaces of the spaetzle maker with hot water and then soaked in hot soapy water for several hours. This helped remove dough residue from washing and rinsing. I didn't find them difficult to clean at all. When the dough dries on them, they are difficult to peel. In general, it's a pity that I didn't know this spaetzle manufacturer many years ago! It's made tons of spaetzle over the years and certainly outperforms the old-fashioned way of cutting portions of dough into boiling water. The process is now shortened by a fraction of the time that was needed "grandma's way".
