It all depends on a particularly thin television or monitor. Basically it doesn't work unless both feet are almost level and leaning on something underneath to prevent sliding down. There are rubber feet on the legs that aren't even fixed in place, other than being slightly clamped by plastic. But any effort and they push back and no longer offer support. I have an old TV that I used to strap to my arm and it's about 4 inches thick. Because this shelf is only 6 inches deep, the legs are mostly straight and therefore don't support any weight at all. It's pretty cheap plastic and the tension knob doesn't lock the legs at all. The mechanism is at least metal, but the threads aren't deep enough to clamp and lock the legs.
