Review on Enhance Your Cabin Air Quality with Motorcraft FP-68 Air Filter by David Lesperance

Fits my '13 Flex - easy no-tool replacement.

Filter OK. Nothing fancy, this is a true Motorcraft replacement for Ford and Lincoln cars. I noticed that the "airflow ^ (directional arrow)" label is missing from the side of the factory installed filter, although it doesn't appear to have any direction - more likely to ensure it's reinstalled in the correct orientation when you should reinstall it after removal for a quick visual inspection. If you're curious about the difficulty of installation, don't worry! This is a tool-free replacement process that takes just three minutes. On my Flex, the filter sits in a slot behind the glove box. The plastic sides of the glove box need to be pushed in for the glove box to open at the tabs, far enough to spill the entire contents onto the floor (I hope you've already removed your owner's manual and gloves(?)). Then on the left side there is a small soft opening syringe-like plunger connected to a small button. It needs to be inserted into the slot to allow the button to pop out of the plastic glove box. (This will be obvious as you play around with this.) Next, find a thin hatch over the HVAC fan motor. There are two thumb latches on the underside of this hatch. Lift it up (thumbs up!) and it pops open like a lid. Remove it completely and you'll see the old filter behind it. It's moving out soon. Assembly is easier than disassembly. Just don't drop anything into the open filter slot - I'm guessing the HVAC fan blades are exposed just below the filter.

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Out of style
