I bought this to record lectures in my college class as I'm not the best note taker in the world. I have used microcassette recorders in the past and have always been disappointed with the quality and was a bit skeptical when purchasing these. Revain's price was much lower than any seller I've found but had great reviews. I figured two mics would work better than one when recording, and the size was a plus as it easily fits in my shirt pocket or briefcase. I only record in high quality, so I can't comment on that. Lower quality recording opportunities, but I can record 5-10 hours of lectures per week for at least a week or two before running out of space. I was sitting at the end of a room that seats 40-50 students and I could hear the teacher's every word and the teacher was not using a microphone or any type of amplifier. However, I find that playback on a computer or device with more amplification is much better. The speaker on the device is minimal and not great for listening to lectures, but the headphones work well with the device. I like the ability to instantly connect the device to my computer from where I can upload the recording to a server for others to use. If I don't have a computer, I can download an hour-long lecture and share it with others in class less than five minutes after the lecture ends. Five folders are pre-installed in the device, which are named and cannot be renamed. If you remember what folder A is used for and not folder D, you shouldn't have any problems. However, the ability to rename folders on the device would be very useful with a computer as it would allow you to classify the different things you could be recording. I use folders for different classes, and I just call my first lesson of the week Folder A, second class Folder B, etc. You can add folders and files from your computer, but the only folders you see on the device are Folders from A to E. It's fine as it helps to have more than one folder, but it seems logical to be able to name those folders. I can rename the entry from its default name to a specific name and it stays on the recorder, but renaming the folders doesn't work. Pros: Size, sound quality, accessibility Cons: Unable to name folders on device. I definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a cheap voice recorder. Even if the name of the folder irritates me a bit, I still give it five stars for quality and accessibility.
