Review on πŸ”Š VARO Portable WiFi and Bluetooth Multi-Room Speaker Cube - Black (iOS Compatible) by Dana Berger

Slow start but works well

I was looking for a waterproof bathroom speaker and didn't want to use a Bluetooth speaker as it automatically connects to the last device when I turn it on. This doesn't work for me because the kids and I all have to use the same speaker in the bathroom when we need to take a shower etc. AirPlay makes it easy to play audio on your device and then just select the speaker from the Airplay menu. Initially I had some trouble connecting and setting up the speaker to Wi-Fi, but I finally figured it out. The right iOS app you need is Soundlogic WiFi Controller. Once I had the right app, setup was very similar to other connected WiFi devices. Once connected to a WiFi device, connect it to your 2.4GHz home WiFi network. Once connected, a firmware update will likely occur. The firmware update worked on the first try, but after restarting the speaker the app said it couldn't find it. The issue was resolved by turning off the speaker and exiting the app before turning it back on and opening the app. I like that I can rename the device so it's easy to find in the AirPlay menu. The speaker supports AirPlay version 1, not AirPlay 2. This means you cannot use AirPlay for multi-room audio. But for what it is and considering the cost, I think it's a smart choice.
