Review on πŸ“± Top-Rated OtterBox COMMUTER SERIES Case for Galaxy S21+ 5G - Sleek BLACK Design by John Caldwell

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Beware of a major design flaw!

I'm usually a big fan of Otterbox cases and have used this brand for my last five phones with no problem. However, this has a pretty clear weak point. Today my phone fell out of my pocket, face down, about 3 feet off the ground. As you can see from the photo, not only did the screen crack, but the display also died. After digging a bit into the case, I found that because the camera is in the farthest corner, there is such a large cutout on the back. This makes that "wall" part of the case very fragile. I think what happened was the phone slipped out of the case and hit the ground because the case came loose in that corner. As you can see in the first photo, the edge of the rubber already looks loose. The last photo shows me popping the phone out of the case with minimal effort. When the phone dropped, it could easily slide out in this corner just because the phone hit the ground, resulting in a crack. This design flaw cost me $330 to replace not only the screen but also the LCD for the camera. If you have that suitcase, make sure it's not hanging around in a corner. I never take my phone out of the case so I don't stretch it. Aside from that major design flaw, it works as intended. The sides and back of the case are adequately protected, but the case is a little less slippery. The charging port cover looks solid. At the bottom of the phone is a 2- to 3-inch section of plastic wall where your fingers would normally grip the phone. If it were structured, it would be much easier to handle with one hand. I always keep my phone close to the buttons because the bottom plastic sides are too smooth. Needless to say I will no longer be using this case with a refurbished phone.
