The XL size is big enough for my 3-legged pitbull to stretch out long and straight when he likes, and firm/supportive enough for all 70lbs of his aging weight. Please note: i've set another bed on top of this - a Snoozer Cozy Cave - because my short-haired dog likes to burrow under a blanket in these chillier times of year, but the cushioning of the Cave is no comparison to the sturdy, supportive KOPEKS round tuffet. In a perfect world, KOPEKS would make a zip-off blanketed fleece "clamshell" cover like the Cozy Cave, so dogs can enjoy the support of the tall memory foam cushion alone in the hot summer, AND the soft warmth of a removable-but-attached blanket in the winter. Bed came smelling slightly of mildew, suggesting the box/package had spent some time outside on a rainy day, but it's faint enough not to be a problem. Overall, happy with this purchase.
