Review on πŸ§‡ Nostalgia MWF5AQ MyMini Aqua Electric Waffle Maker - 5-Inch Cooking Surface for Hash Browns, French Toast, Grilled Cheese, Quesadilla, Brownies, and Cookies by Fritz Wiest

Revainrating 2 out of 5

It heats up badly, cooks for a long time, waffles do not crunch.

I bought three different waffle makers to make keto chaffles. Here's my comparison and results: Winner: Dash Multi: You can do multiple chuffles at once so you don't get stuck with the maker for long. Heats up quickly, cooks quickly and evenly, and has overflow channels to catch excess for easy cleanup. I love it! The only drawback is that the lid does not snap open, so it cannot be stored vertically. A meager 1/4 cup seems like the right amount to fill each circle. Use a little less when making cheddar chaff as the cheddar will really puff up and overflow. First Runner Up: Dash Mini: Heats up fast and cooks fast. Easy to clean when not crowded. A meager 1/4 cup seems like the right amount for filling. Use a little less when making cheddar chaff. Once you learn how to use the right amount, this waffle maker makes a very nice crispy waffle with minimal cleanup. If it overflows, it's a big mess! This mini waffle maker is ideal for on the go! However, there's a pretty big annoyance, and that's that the lid won't just stay open. Once the iron has cooled, the lid will hold up well. But for some reason it won't stay open when heated and is very frustrating trying to get the rest of the batter out with a rubber spatula. I twisted the lid a bit to see if I could loosen a mechanism that was making it close too easily and I'm hoping this gets better with time. Maybe I just got a bug? Another minor annoyance is that it's not as easy to see the indicator light as it's a tiny blue light behind the blue plastic. Just make sure to look for the light right in the middle of the plastic center. I have an iron for traveling, but at home I use a multifunction iron. Second (Loser): Nostalgia. because he's more than ironing Dash. This results in a 5 inch wafer (compared to 4 inches for the Dash). So it holds a full 1/4 cup of batter without overflowing. This appliance heats up quickly but doesn't cook quickly and the waffles never seem to crisp. The iron itself doesn't look as pretty as the Dash irons. And it's all kind of lame. In my photos I compare irons and the resulting Chafly (Nostalgia on the left, Dash mini in the middle and Dash multi on the right). In the picture where the irons are open they are in a different order (oops). (Dash multi on the left, Dash mini in the middle and Nostalgia on the right).

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Sad packaging
