I bought 2 of these. 1 died after 1 month of use and the other is still working after 10 weeks of use. The light produced is very noticeable and the device does not generate much heat. The color of the laser points is deep and bright, but does not produce any disturbing residual light. In other words, it works well as a laser, not like a lightbulb like some of the cheaper products. Pointing straight up at the ceiling doesn't work best, as this will result in a field of dots that is a few short fields wide. It is best if it is directed at an angle to the ceiling. So put it in the lamp in one corner and then bend the lamp so that it faces the other corner of the ceiling. This gives it the maximum "spread". I'm currently using it with a cheap $8 clip on a lamp that attaches to a shelf. The type that features a large round metal cone at the base of the bulb. The version of this product that I have is blue. Typically, with lasers of this type, the green version is the brightest. I recommend blue for a soft vibe and green for an edgier feel.
