Used 2mm spacers to replace the stock thermal pads on Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC VRAM modules and reused the old spacers and placed them between the PCB and metal backplate. If you want enough to get rid of the old pads completely and be able to add them between PCB and backplate, you need to order two pads as only one is included in the package. immediately jumps to 106-108C when mining with NiceHash. After installing the Gelid Extreme pads on the VRAM modules and placing the old pads behind the circuit board between the metal backplate, the temperatures dropped to around 86°C with the fan speed running at just 60% instead of the 100% I had previously had to use. I don't think the results will be much better if Gelid is used between the PCB and the backplate. I think you're better off saving money and just reusing old notebooks rather than throwing them away. Most importantly, there is something that transfers heat from the PCB to the backplate to allow it to act as a heatsink. Which doesn't happen if there are no pads to begin with.
