Review on πŸ’§ Zefal 164 Water Bottle: Durable 33 oz Container for Hydration by Joshua Gallegos

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like the big size. The lid broke when dropped, but Zefal sent a new one or you can fix the old one.

Many of my trips are long solo trips without support in rural areas where it is difficult to find drinking water. These magnum water bottles are great for doing this between water sources. Like a few other reviewers, I dropped the bottle (it was empty), it landed on the bite valve and the cap broke. It was disappointing but when I emailed Zefal to see if I could buy just the lid they sent me a new one for free. That's excellent customer service. While waiting for the new lid to arrive, I tried to fix the broken one with a hot glue gun. This worked and stopped most of the leak, but not entirely satisfactorily. I then used a soldering iron to melt the plastic along the crack. If I needed additional material, I cut it from the outside edge of the lid where it wouldn't interfere with the gasket. It worked great. The idea came from a YouTube video of a guy fixing small engine gas tanks. I now have a refurbished lid that works and doesn't leak, albeit ugly. It is best to work from the outside of the lid; Working from the inside is tricky and you may end up melting the threads. Images show a cracked lid, a solid lid, and a cut out area.
