We had guests in the basement for a year and had to take the tray upstairs and could only put it in the living room. We have 2 cats and we use a large litter box. After reading helpful reviews we put it up as a shelf liner so I could be there if there was a mess. When lining, I made sure to use one continuous piece at the seams. We received a tall sided tray from Target and it barely fit. We cut its edge on one side so it goes in and out normally. It's cute and works well. It doesn't really look like a tray. Mission accomplished!
