Review on Saniderm Adhesive Antibacterial Bandage 10 - 2 Inches by Bishop Richter

Short Story: If you've ever had an allergic reaction to a bandage, patch, or medical-grade adhesive, don't use it. If not, then this stuff is just amazing. Long story: This was my first tattoo so I researched methods and healing options extensively. Found Saniderm and loved the idea of not having to wash it all the time, not having to worry about bioburden etc. Day 1: Got a tattoo and asked the artist to use their brand (Second Skin) instead of a traditional one wrap. It didn't cut off a really big chunk so the liquid started leaking within 5 minutes. After driving 2 hours to get home, I removed the bandage, put Redemption Tattoo Aftercare on it and put a nice big patch of Saniderm on it. It was easy for me to work with him. Day 2: Went to ballet class and was sweating so I removed the bandage, washed the tattoo, applied more Redemption and a new patch of Saniderm to keep everything clean. At this point I noticed a slight redness where the skin came into contact with Saniderm, but nothing unusual as I had just removed the first bandage. Day 4, evening: I decided to change the bandage again because. Seeing only a slight accumulation of liquid (mostly just ink) I got ready for a flight the next morning and hoped I didn't have to change my bandage again before the weekend trip. Same procedure as before (removing the bandage, washing, atonement, bandaging). Only this time I cut off a smaller piece of Saniderm because I wasn't oozing as much as I used to, so I wasn't worried about the liquid dripping out of the bandage anymore. Day 5 Morning: Woke up and checked my tattoo. . I was shocked to see that the area previously covered by the large piece of Saniderm but now exposed behind the small piece was BRIGHT RED, PULLY AND ITCHY. I immediately realized this was some kind of allergic reaction, so I removed the rest of the Saniderm, washed off the tattoo and applied Redemption to the entire area. Later that day I applied some essential oils to the red swollen area (which now covered the entire area where the Saniderm was applied) and to the tattoo (immortelle, wild marjoram and tea tree) and continued to apply the oil. Redemption Tattoo Ointment. Day 6, evening: I took the first 2 photos that I've attached here. The swelling began to subside, the redness decreased slightly. Where Atonement was applied (over the tattoo) the skin was healthy and normal. It was around this time that I switched to using Ora's Herbal Tattoo Salve and tea tree oil for itching (which worked wonders, by the way). Day 14 (9 days after Saniderm removal): Photo 3. The tattoo has mostly healed (pretty I'd add) but the skin around it hasn't recovered from the allergic reaction yet. About 4 weeks after applying Saniderm, the skin did not fully return to its normal color. Day 57 Photo 4 Skin and tattoo are fully healed. days. My tattoo never came off and it looks great today. Worked as stated. And thanks to the customer service team at Saniderm who were very accommodating and open about the ingredients when asked. Really cool. Speaking of an allergic reaction, there's obviously such a thing as an allergy to medical-grade adhesives. I had similar (minor) reactions to some dressings (including Curad) as a kid, so we always thought I had a latex contact allergy. After I went to my doctor (Day 8) and showed her the inflammation, she explained the drug-glue allergy to me. So any future tattoos I get will need to be maintained using a different method. Feeney: I would absolutely recommend this to a friend provided they are not sensitive to bandages or other medical grade adhesives. Otherwise stay away.
