Review on ๐Ÿช“ Felled Draw Shave Tool Woodworking: Craftsmanship at Its Finest by Richard Payne

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The unsharpened and thick uneven coating makes this almost impossible without a power tool.

Overall not recommended, too dull to do anything with and almost impossible to sharpen without the help of a belt sander or similar tool due to the very thick, poor quality material. black coating. However, I will list the pros and cons below: Pros: Quality construction - I was initially drawn to this for the handle design (no pun intended); Unlike many drawknives, this one comes with bolt-on handles, meaning they can be easily swapped out if the wood starts to crack, which seems to be the first point of failure for most commonly used drawknives. While the bolt-on design can cause the grip to come loose, the nuts on the ends appear to be secured with threadlock or some other adhesive, meaning the grips are extremely secure. may be. It was clear that it had not been damaged; There were no scratches or dents on the rim or thick black trim. It was also clear that absolutely no effort had been made at the factory to sharpen it; I've tried it on several pieces of wood of varying hardness and it doesn't even cut linden reliably. A knife arriving blunt would not be a problem if there weren't other factors. Thick protective layer. Like many other knives and tools, this knife has a black protective coating which I was pleased with looking at photos. However, when it arrived it was immediately apparent that this coating was very thick and did not appear to be applied very evenly. On the ground side of the blade, the coating wasn't much of a problem, but on the unpolished side, the coating went all the way to the edge, which helped the blade cut so poorly. My previous attempts to remove this coating all around the edge have been fairly unsuccessful; I work mostly with hand tools and don't have access to a belt sander or whetstone, which I suspect will quickly remove. In summary, I cannot recommend this knife again; While the construction is solid, the thick coating and unsharpened edge are the deciding factors for me. I COULD (and most likely) consider buying it again if I had the power tools needed to sharpen it, but in all honesty I'd probably be better off buying a different tool.
