This is the replacement I got after the first one I got was a splinter and not suitable for bare skin. I've been using it for a little over 2 weeks and I'm still wary of using it on bare skin so I use it over my clothes. My calf muscles feel tight and this is very effective in massaging the muscles. I had no bruises just a slight redness that goes away after 10-15 minutes. I don't really use small sticks. After about a week of using the larger stick, one of the bumps fell out. I used hot glue to put it back in place but it fell out again. I'll try to glue it with crazy glue. There are also pieces of wood that are not splinters but more like flakes that get stuck under the "bumps". In summary, a large stick is effective but may not be suitable for bare skin and is not very durable.
