The only distressed look is along the cuffs and seams, the rest is a solid chocolate brown that looks (and smells) artificial. But does seem well-constructed, and the style is pretty unique -- I had trouble finding any leather jackets without zippers.I wear a 44 sport coat, but the XL I ordered is still a little tight in the shoulders when I move my arms. For that reason, and because the lining seems to be empty of any insulating material, I'd order a size or two larger than you normally would, to leave room for other layers in cold weather.
