Review on HELLA H84709011 Relay Socket by John Barnett

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Doesn't do the job worth the money though.

I bought one of these along with another type that is prewired with the idea that I would jumper some of the other wires from the prewired version to this one to complete my wiring project. This is noticeably lower quality compared to the pre-installed version, and you can even feel it. The terminals are also slightly different in style from the pre-wired version. I actually think they use typical "Carling Switch" style connectors. This thing doesn't really mean 12 gauge wiring. 12 gauge will do, but doesn't seem to be the best fit with the small rubber plugs, which is particularly noticeable when crimping socket ends. I also had issues with two female ends not wanting to snap. ship and I still haven't figured out why. Female ends like to only go one way, and they have a little tab that needs to snap. I plugged in both of the problematic socket ends and they just won't latch, meaning that trying to plug in the SPDT Hella relay pushed the wires out of the socket. I wanted to turn on my electrical project and it wasn't working when I found this problem. So far I've worked on this by manually holding the 2 problematic wires while inserting the relay. The weather plugs also stick out a bit on these two, so it kind of defeats the purpose of "weather resistance". get a whole new outlet. Also, $13 is a bit pricey considering the item doesn't match the prewired version and the prewired version is currently cheaper on Amazon, but I didn't want to deal with soldering a few wires and potential bugs in the To introduce comparison to be able to use solid wires. Next time I'll grab a cheaper kit from an electronics website instead and just ditch the "weatherproof" idea since it was for an internal project anyway.

Pros
  • Weatherproof Mini 280 Relay Connector Kit.
Cons
