This is the most effective toy for girls I have personally experienced. Every morning he puts a huge smile on not only my kid's face but mine too! Let me upfront by saying that I am an anal super picky mom who prefers Grimms (Made in Germany), Camden Roses (Made in USA) as well as Plan Toys solid wood toys (Made in Thailand), carved kitchen game sets and etc. and Green Toys (made in the USA) from recycled plastic without BPA and phthalates. I've also seen the full range of makeshift solid wood dollhouses. So at first I was hesitant to buy this dollhouse, which is partly made of MDF and plastic, although it also contains solid wood. But boy was I impressed with this Kidcraft lock. It took my husband about 4 hours to build it, he was meticulous and took his time and used his drill bit in a few spots. All but one piece fits as expected; The top ladder was a bit fiddly but bolted down well and looks fantastic. The instructions were clear enough and none of it was lost. The end result, a 5 foot tall castle with a strikingly photogenic clock tower, is sturdy, beautiful and magical, exceeding my and our kids' wildest Disney dollhouse dreams. No issues with the attic doors which appear to have been recently redesigned (?) with better support so they don't snap off the hinges unlike the earlier version of the attic doors photographed in some of the earlier reviews here. However, as a precaution, I told our child never to lock the attic doors so we can open them more easily each time. No problem even with thin stairs; The bottom ladder can come off the edge if you play it VERY roughly, but why would you want to play it SO roughly? No big deal, just reattach it and it stays strong enough. This dollhouse fits all Disney Classic dolls as well as Barbie dolls. It has fueled hours and hours of non-stop creative storytelling. The painted details in each room and even on the outside of the castle are so numerous and well illustrated that it is easy for you and your child to lose yourself in another world. The plexiglass skylight over the attic is a particularly nice "high-end" architectural touch, if you will. Kudos to KidKraft for avoiding most pinks - glad to see a predominantly NOT pink dollhouse for once! I highly recommend it to all doll, dollhouse and Disney lovers, young or young at heart. However, there is always room for improvement. My design suggestions from KidKraft: (1) Raise the balcony railing outside the master bedroom to make it more realistic. That way the dolls leaning over the balcony railing don't fall down. It's odd that the balcony railing is so low considering the expected 11-12 inch dolls will be occupying this castle. (2) Add stairs or elevator from 3rd floor to attic. The attic with its skylight is such a magical space that it deserves the same magical access point as the staircase winding up from the 3rd floor balcony. (3) The green "tile floor" in the kitchen is an odd choice of colors and materials and looks out of place. It is highly recommended to choose a cobblestone floor or even a hardwood floor to match the interior of a medieval castle. (4) How about adding a solid partition with a door between the kitchen and bathroom to make a private bathroom more realistic, especially since it has a bathtub? (5) Please craft more medieval castle style furniture to complete the interior. For example, I would like to see a formal dining table and set of chairs. This spectacular dollhouse deserves more accessories and furniture.
