The Dogtra 280-C is my first experience with an e-collar. I considered buying an e-collar for a few months and although the mini collar was a major competitor I finally settled on the 280C Tom Davis version. As a new user I was a little nervous about using this on my dog as I didn't want it to be a negative experience for him. But Tom Davis and many other trainers I follow have so much free information that I got to the bottom of things pretty quickly. I also tried the pager and stimulator on myself to get a better idea of how my dog would be feeling and it helped calm me down. The first thing I really like about the Tom Davis Edition is the colorful branding. This makes the product a little more approachable, friendlier and not so serious! I also love that it stands out so much on my black and red dog because it just helps me keep an eye on it in public places. That was one of the reasons I bought him a red collar in the first place! The bungee collar is also a feature I appreciate. It's easy to put on and take off, and I was planning on buying it if only it came with a regular neck strap. Plus you love the "No Bad Dogs" message on it! The "Boost" function is also a great addition to the device. I know the mini teacher already has this feature so this was a nice addition. Haven't used it yet but it gives me peace of mind that I can use it if something happens when my dog is off the leash. The notched button grooves really help me find it even when I'm focusing on my dog. It's a neat little design feature, so small but so useful. I had some trouble setting a specific number on the dial, but I think it might just be my inexperience with the device. For example, if I wanted to set the level to 6, I sometimes got 5 or 7 instead, and I had to really focus on turning the knob left or right to get to 6. But like I said, this might just be my inexperience and I'll get more comfortable with it over time. Overall, I have had a positive experience with this device. This is a great introduction to using an e-collar. While a little overwhelming, Tom Davis has tons of resources on all of his platforms about the e-collar and how you can use it to achieve your learning goals. Ultimately I want my dog to be free when hiking (of course on a leash when other dogs are around) and this is a good first step towards that. Congratulations to Tom and the Dogtra team! This is a solid product. #NoBadDogs
