Review on Logitech X52 Flight Control System for Enhanced Optimization by Andrew Burnside

Disappointing HOTAS, especially for the price.

Between COVID and MS Flight Simulator, HOTAS prices are off the charts. However, my T16000 has a broken pivot and I would rather go for a combo with more switches than disabling yaw on the joystick and buying pedals. The X56 costs over $400, so the X52 looked like a decent compromise. As the day progressed on Elite: Dangerous maps, I grew more and more frustrated, although I had a strong desire to ignore the bugs and just settle for what I could afford. Finished. Yes, the throttle squeaks a bit and the grip feels light, but if it weren't for the cons below I wouldn't bother. - Two hats on the handle and better T1-6 switches compared to T16000. .-The throttle is comfortable in hand and pressing the buttons isn't too difficult, although people with smaller hands will probably disagree. I would say my hands are medium sized for a grown man. CONS: Throttle tension isn't really adjustable. It's still pretty solid at its lowest level. I could get used to that, but there are also 25% and 75% detents that I find annoying. Also, it tends to move quite a distance from where you left it. Let's say you set it at 60% throttle, it goes back to about 58% when you release the pressure. Slight irritation. - Wheels and sliders that should be switches! I personally don't find any practical use for the wheels or sliders in the Elite. The T16000's three hat switches were great, just poorly placed. i miss hats - The mouse nudge (don't know what else to call it) on the throttle is useless. It is very sensitive and the axes are difficult to maneuver with precision. If it worked as well as an old laptop eraser mouse it could be pretty decent, but it's a poor implementation of that type of input. - Digital thruster on throttle, not analogue. Also a little annoying, but I really prefer the finesse of an analog stick to 0% or 100% thrust in either direction. The USB port is on the choke, so there is no practical way to use the X52 stick with a different choke. . Each component must have its own USB. The serial connection between them is just a mess on my desk. Uncomfortably bright blue LEDs. It doesn't matter, they all stopped glowing after about a day. This was on a powered USB 3 hub. The movement of the stick is pretty smooth in combat where your movements are big and fast. Takes a light touch, which I find nice since the base doesn't rise when you move it. However, slow and flat movements show that a little stickiness makes those more precise movements hard and annoying. - The little switch doesn't seem to work at all. Such a crap. I tried really hard to like it but I'm sending it back and need to save up for another brand or model.
