Easy assembly. It slips into the clutch and is tightened on a locking pin so the fit is snug and won't rattle on bumps. My only problem was getting the vertical bar upright after putting the bike in the forward position - the bar would often hit the pedal, so get used to getting the pedal in place first, and the Locking hooks stay on the wheel where it goes. into the wheelhouses. This problem was solved by removing the screw that keeps the hooks from detaching from the rack and only installing the hooks as needed after the bike was in place. on short rides (in the city) i ride "as is", the bike is safe. On long rides (300 miles) I use a ratchet locking strap to keep the bike from moving and of course a 6ft lock cable. I recommend this over the cheaper non-tilting model as my Xterra tailgate will not open without tipping from the stowed position.
