Review on ๐ŸŸข 10-Piece Set of Green Anchor Hocking TrueSeal Glass Food Storage Containers with Lids by Jon Conner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Wonderful sentence! Plus care tips.

I've studied all the polished glass bowls that Revain sells. I read reviews carefully. I decided I needed an old American manufacturer and was disappointed to see that Pyrex containers have a habit of exploding. However, the Anchor Hocking name is just as old and respectable, so I went with it and am very happy with it. What I didn't expect from this kit: plastic lid - flexible, bendable! Hooray! I've read so many negative reviews on other products complaining about the brittle plastic tabs on the lids breaking off. That won't happen with these. Anchor Hocking has always been in the glass business, so the company knows what it's doing. Unless the USPS or FedEx are playing soccer in your kitchen, these bowls should last a lifetime. A tip to keep in mind if, as one reviewer ranted, the lid takes on the smell of the contents (surprising if it's fresh bread, not so good if it's onions). It's not Ankor Hawking's fault. That's just the nature of plastic. And you can eliminate the smell. Do it: Rinse the cover in cold water before washing. If the lid stinks, catch it because hot water fixes the odor on plastic much like stains on linen. Place the lid on a bowl that is slightly larger and fill it with warm water and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Let it sit for a while. Or use lemon or vinegar instead of baking soda. If you're already screwed and the smell is still there, do what I did when the renter left my fridge with a horrible smell: crumple up some newspaper to almost fill the jar (in this case your Anchor Hocking glass bowl) and add regular charcoal (two should do). Charcoal absorbs odors. Close the lid tightly and see how it smells after a day or two. Again, DO NOT wash in hot water until you are sure the odor has gone. But I would advise you to buy the best you can afford. These last longer. And there are environmental implications for our throwaway society. We're feeling them right now.
