How it works?

Just bought this item. It looks nice and solid, but doesn't come with a power adapter, user manual or a clear indication of where to find information online. I found a 12V power supply that seems to fit into one of the power and output connectors (don't know what the power connector is for) and can't get it to work. I think I'll just return this item and buy something else.
