Support for immature software - don't expect stability

I was building some applications with a Raspberry Pi and decided to give it a try to improve performance. It seems better (I haven't done any serious testing), but software support leaves a lot to be desired. This might be a good choice for those who enjoy debugging software package issues, but it's not the best choice for those who want a stable Linux platform for other developments. what he explains, but there he points to download areas that are a complete mess of broken links and bad HTML. HOWEVER, if you ignore the hints in the manual and instead keep visiting the vendor's website, you can find other links to some software (but not specifically SD card creation software which I never found, but you can use Etcher instead and it works great ). I installed Ubuntu 18.04 and it worked - basically. Once in a while. The board didn't work with my monitor with an HDMI to DVI adapter, I ended up using a TV that didn't scale properly so the display was almost unusable (note the Pi uses the DVI adapter with no problem). Once I could get to the shell prompt I installed and updated a bunch of packages and thought everything was fine but found that I couldn't boot to the GUI anymore. Someone familiar with the IRC support channel (not the vendor) said that there are all sorts of bugs in the distribution and the packages cannot be trusted. We see the truth. He also said the support is improving and could be a lot better in 6 months. The board looks good to me, but I needed something to build software on, not that I had to spend all my time just learning the basics of collaborating and playing. Back in the box and on the shelf. I suspect other open source SOC boards have better support (Pi of course) but I think I'll double the investment and buy an X86/64 board where Ubuntu support is mature and just works . I do not recommend this board. for people who expect mature software support right out of the box.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons
  • Nothing
