My job involves a lot of climbing and crawling, and I've learned the hard way that knees need to be spared if you're going to climb and crawl for decades, but I haven't worn knee pads in a long time because the ones I've tried in the past have been so uncomfortable. That has changed for me, maybe with a little motivation from the medical bills. I can get work done in it all day with less discomfort than an orthopedic knee brace, and I don't have to remember to put them on and take them off depending on the task I'm working on. Worst case scenario, if I want to give my feet a rest in hot weather or something, I can remove the bottom buckles and leave them hanging, but overall they haven't gotten in my way at all and saved me thousands of dollars in knee surgeries.
