I wanted to add some charging ports to the desk extension I installed in my home office. My desk apron is made out of 1 x 4 wood, that is, 0.75 inches thick and 3.5 inches high. All other furniture USB hubs seem to require a minimum 2" hole, but I didn't want my 3.5" apron to have a hole that size as it would leave little for structural support. I found this and decided to give it a try. Tried it on some junk in the garage before drilling through my new table. My calipers told me the bushing diameter is 1-1/8" just behind the open face (but there isn't much material in there before the diameter falls back onto the threaded body as you can see in the product images). The threads Portion is just over 1". The threaded part will not go through a 1" spade hole, just so you know. make a tighter fit, but turns out that doesn't work, nor is it necessary. I ended up drilling all the way through with a 1-1/8" wing bit and pressing the bushing into the skirt for a perfect fit. Enough threads come out of the back that one of the included nuts could grab maybe 2 or 3 threads. At the moment it's only hand tight and isn't going anywhere. No play, no wobble, no spin. See the attached photos for the end result an.This is exactly what I needed.
