My fault for not reading the description carefully. Little did I know they are rechargeable and have to be turned on with a button on the tongue. I thought they were motion activated. Unfortunately, the button isn't sewn to the tongue, so you'll need to make sure it stays tucked away in the little pocket on the tongue. He wants to sit right under the Velcro that holds the shoe in place. This makes it difficult for a small child to turn it on and off when the shoes are on, while at the same time making it easier Accidentally pressing buttons when the child is walking/running/playing. the small metal velcro tends to turn sideways due to poor stitching. The charging ports aren't waterproof, so I'm assuming they'll stop working pretty quickly. My four year old doesn't always remember not to run through puddles and wet grass when he's in them. A full charge lasts several hours if you hold it constantly. Next time I'll use motion-activated running shoes. not running through puddles and wet grass when he is in them.
