Revainrating 5 out of 5

Beware of a defective RZ axis

I have loved this Hotas joystick in the 2 years that I have owned it. And then one day he started playing. And mind you, I haven't used it regularly or spent an insulting amount of hours on it. I only use it to play Elite Dangerous and play pretty sloppy. The RZ axis (rotational motion for yaw in flight) started to move erratically on its own. Long story short, Thrustmaster tech support walked me through a long list of things to try to narrow down the problem and rule out software or my own PC. After all, it was actually a matter of a failure of the potentiometer inside the device. Thrustmaster seemed willing to send me a replacement until they found out I've had it for over a year, after which they said they wouldn't do anything for me. Less than 2 years with a $70 controller when I bought it seems absurd. And if Thrustmaster only backs their product for 1 year, that should tell you something. As soon as I started Googling "T16000 RZ axle failure" I was shocked at the sheer number of people having this issue. So many people, and with such poor support from Thrustmaster, that YouTube has step-by-step instructions on how to desolder, clean, and replace the RZ potentiometer, multiple posts on the Reddit forums, Frontier (Elite Dangerous), and general questions/answers on the exact has problem. I have. This is not an isolated mistake. And TM doesn't help anyone. I wholeheartedly recommend Logtiech devices in this price range. Thrustmaster really missed the mark and their lack of support really made me regret buying their product. UPDATE: It now squeaks loudly when I raise and lower. Reduced rating to one star - look for a better joystick.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • The list will be long.
