A fun but incomplete bookbinding starter kit. Don't expect sharp scissors or an awl

***** When we make book covers out of chipboard, we need to add glue to them. Yes!) As long as it comes with half the instructions with pictures, they could be a lot better. I recommend YouTube for dozens of very clear and detailed walkthroughs with live demos for each step. I love love love the idea of a starter binding set! This is a very cheap/low quality entry-level kit, but I applaud the intent behind it! No wonder why the price is low but I expected the tools to work as intended. Blunt scissors, dull awl, dubious knife blade. I'm worried, that someone new to bookbinding will be disappointed and possibly discarded as the tools set are not good enough to make the binding process satisfactory as usual, nor does it contain the requisite acid-free glue. or any glue. It comes in a nice box :) I love it. This is a fun collection of tools and some accessories to see if you want to bind your own books. This is good because it doesn't take much effort to experiment and find out you don't want to do it. I like the dice folder, much better quality than the one that comes with score boards etc. She is tight and smooth; Fits comfortably in your hand. Needles 11 pieces - 5 straight and 6 curved. I would have liked a lot fewer needles and the inclusion of a binder. Glues that can be used with the glue brush included in the kit. There are four spools of "waxed" thread (that's a lot), but a small pot of bookbinder's glue goes well with the glue brush included in the kit. set to. Since the included tools don't work very well, the four coils are overkill - I'll never get past a fraction of that before the tools completely give up a ghost. The thread should be waxed but I honestly don't see or feel it. I really appreciate that the scissors come with a blade guard - always a good thing! The scissors are useless for the thread provided and feel very cheap in my hand. I experimented on paper after I had thread cutting issues like this, but they are not intended for use on paper, so useless for their intended purpose. I REALLY wish the scissors were sharp as they are useless for cutting thread. It took several attempts to raise and lower the scissor blades, and when they finally cut, the result was badly worn and couldn't get through the needle eyes, even when I (usually) crushed the ends to try to slip through the eye. I would also VERY like it if the awl was sharp. I ended up using one of several of my paper piercing tools ($2-$12 here at Revain). The awl I received is dull and I had to push so hard to pierce four sheets of 28 lb printer paper, causing the paper to become distorted. Another tool that is useless for its intended purpose. The pry tool also feels very cheap in the hand, which doesn't inspire confidence when you need to press really hard, and I had to press for it to cut through a single 28-pound sheet. paper for printers. If I have to push hard to use a blade in a tool, it's a potentially dangerous tool. The blades aren't particularly sharp and you can feel some resistance. A pencil (unsharpened, no problem) is included. Set includes binding clips (four) - very useful; I've used these and Wonderclips to clip glued items together. A metal ruler measures in inches on one side (yes!) and centimeters on the back (hooray for the rest of you! ). A metal thimble is very handy for pushing stubborn needles through. , the set could be a bit better quality for the same price, replacing some of the many items with work items that include a small pot of glue. You know you have to go with a glue brush and clips. Clamps can also be used to hold pieces together while sewing, making the process much easier.
