Review on Gizmo Dorks Blue Painters Printers: Superior Performance and Precision by Mark Patterson

Some good, some bad

I like the size because it allows for faster build plate alignment. If it's on the plate and starts to heat up, the glue will soften too soon and won't curl well. Much worse than the cheap Lowes blue masking tape. BUT what is good is the texture and adhesion for your prints. I've had excellent adhesion with PLA, ABS and PETG, in fact PETG was so good that even with a wire brush and water I couldn't remove half the tape from the bottom of my print. Good thing it was a proof of something. I found that it would soon lift the pressure and peel off the build plate as the adhesive escapes and not the pressure from the tape. So now I use special clips to make sure it stays on the sides, called binding clips :). No more problems with the tape other than sticking well to prints. Which leads to the last negative I guess if you will. The cheap blue tape I usually use can usually be reused more than once. I didn't find that to be the case with this tape as it lagged behind the build plate and the heat caused wrinkles that were never smoothed out well enough. In my previous use I've used this from 50 to 100C and the band curvature starts at 50. My next try with this might be to try without heat for PLA or PETG if I dare to use it with that again.

Pros
  • Similar to the ribbon that comes with Makerbot printers
Cons
  • Crumpled
