I have a 2019 YT Capra with a TruVativ Descendant crankset. I changed the chainring to an oval but found that in the last 3000 miles I seemed to have lost the self-retracting part. This replacement was just what I needed to remove my grip. The self-retracting portion slides over the threads and allows the drive-side crank to be unscrewed. It worked great. I hate that I had to spend $15 but it worked out great. After using it, I would advise you to remove the external drive (self-extracting item) and keep it in a safe place so that you don't have to buy it like me in the future.
