Loose glasses are best in accessories

I have to say that I am more than disappointed with these glasses. Earlier this year I ordered a pair of St. Barths in champagne frames which have quickly become one of my favorite everyday pieces out of my dozen or more pairs. These are truly exceptional sunglasses, well made and beautiful. So when I got the chance to try on the blue light Cloos glasses in a very similar Gouverneur frame, also in champagne color, I jumped at the opportunity. I received them this week and if they didn't come in their original packaging I would seriously assume that these glasses and my St Barths were made by entirely different brands. Both have the same very well-made hinges (the commercial claims they fold like the doors of a sports car, which is what it sounds like), but otherwise the Gouverneurs are a pale shadow of St. Barth. Big problem here. that the lenses are very clearly weakened. My St. Barts lenses don't have micron play, but when I touch the Gouverneurs lenses with a cleaning cloth, I hear a loud plastic squeak as the lenses move in the ill-fitting frame. My first thought was that maybe the lenses in St. Barths were glass and Gouverneurs were CR-39 and the lighter weight caused problems, but no. Both have CR-39 lenses. I finally got it. Frame The Barths have a double bridge that provides enough stability to keep everything securely in place. The Governors don't have that, and the thin metal frames with plastic trim edges just aren't strong enough, making the frames feel flimsy, brittle, and cheap. It's a real shame as my wife ordered a pair of Cloos Pampelonne frames and loves them. Cloos can clearly make some spectacular glasses, but these frames seem to fail at times.
