This is a nylon mesh tarpaulin. Nothing but a medium sized dog would likely bite through them. If someone tries to scratch your skin, they can't handle it. I haven't been bitten by a human while wearing them, but based on my experience I'd say they deflect most damage. The problem is that they only cover the forearm, and the most experienced violent people know how to scratch their upper arm while trying to hold their hands. They're great worn under a long sleeve shirt or over a protective Magid sleeve. From a design point of view, the biggest issue is that they curl up at the ends and get a little smaller than when unfolded. It's also difficult to wear the watch while in use unless you put the strap on the entire cuff.
