It actually fits an XJ Cherokee (at least my 2000) but the instructions are poor.
Following the attached guide I came to the same conclusion as others. That does not fit. Then I removed the mixed door drive and everything became clear. You will need to remove the old plastic slots and replace them with the metal piece that came with this door. I have created an attached guide which I hope makes the procedure clearer. When I did that, the door worked great. Remember to center the temperature scale between hot and cold before disassembly. This is described in the attached instructions. I did this and had to go back and correct my mistake. The drive didn't quite move.
