So my cat has been fine on diuretics all her life but now with heart failure has had a lot of accidents from frequent urination. I used rocco and roxie for the mess, which is great for the initial mess. I used rented carpet shampoo and the cleaning product that came with the carpet to make the carpet smell like grain, perfume and dirty water and it made sure the Rocco and Roxy smell didn't go away like it should. I hate the smell of perfume. Your brain begins to associate smells when they are also used for their intended purpose. It just didn't smell clean when it smelled like cleaning supplies and mold. This was my last attempt before settling for the pros or carpet replacement. I poured some into a spray bottle just to test its strength and planned to use it later in the carpet machine I bought. Wherever it smelled, I sprayed a large amount (enough to get to the pad) and scrubbed lightly with my fingers. Anywhere there is a light perfume smell, I spray enough to cover the fibers. After drying, the smell disappeared. The carpet is a bit hard and crusty, but that goes away with a vacuum or two. I haven't even gotten to the carpet machine and my house doesn't smell like cleaning supplies or kitty litter anymore. It really worked. I'll be using Carpet Detail's fragrance-free, non-sudsing cleaner as soon as I can open the windows (it's snowing) as it leaves the carpet nice and soft. Can't recommend ZorbX enough. He destroyed every stink he touched and only needed a heavy coat or two. Just make sure you pour liquid on the cat pee pad, or use an enzyme that absorbs ammonia first (again, I use Rocco and Roxy) and then that after. Keep this material handy forever.
