I have been happy with McDavid mounts for a number of years but as one of them eventually fell apart I decided to try the Shock Doctor version. SD is better for several reasons: Less bulky. SD feels lighter. - Short toe to heel. This can be seen in the photos. SD is on the right foot and McD is on the left foot. The SD is a solid inch shorter. I have semi-ossified spurs (tarsalbump?) on the top of my feet and the SD fits much better. McD covers up and annoys him. The SD is short enough not to hit him. Lace up better. Instead of metal eyelets, as with McD, fabric loops are used with SD. They also make it less cumbersome and annoying. They might be a little less comfortable to learn about than the McD version due to the thinness (I've only worn a new SD 5-10 times) but even if I have to replace them a little more often I think they are it value.
