These are simple stainless steel parts that help "machine" the holes for stainless steel railings. I think it does the job. But it's not just that they're expensive, 3M adhesive doesn't stick well to the rough compression wood on my patio. I've torn off a few already, and now I'll probably try to attach them with hot glue or epoxy. In addition, the red protective film, which must be removed before assembly, CANNOT be removed. I mean every if I had to use a utility knife to try and find an edge. Trying to peel the backing off the adhesive with your fingernail didn't work. It was time consuming and frustrating.
