Good stainless steel hooks that live up to their carrying capacity

Overall these are good hangers that live up to their specs. They are easy to install and remove, and the holes they leave are easy to patch. They offer a premium price for convenient installation and easy removal, so you'll have to weigh up whether the added convenience is worth a few bucks to you. INSTALLATION: They're easy to install - you just plug them in and they're installed. There are a few things to consider. although. This only applies to drywall. If you have an old house with plaster and battens, they won't work. If you have concrete walls this will not work. If you have cement boards, they won't work. This should be obvious from the list, but I'm only enlightening those who haven't read carefully. Even if you have drywall less than 0.5" thick, you won't be able to fog it! This part was not clearly listed. The hooks protrude about 0.5 inch from the surface. The hooks are blunt - they go into the drywall but aren't sharp enough to cut through the wood. So if you have 3/8" thick drywall, the hooks go all the way through the drywall and stick out a little at the back - if there's a bolt there, you can't get it all the way in! 3M has a pretty handy locating feature with sticky ones Foam blocks. Other reviewers have covered this extensively so I won't go into detail here. Suffice it to say it works well and makes precise installation easier. However, I'm not sure how much all those disposable foam blocks add to the cost of this one product.I assumed this was probably just marketing exaggeration but I know 3M has a history of product/material innovation so I figured maybe they are using some kind of special alloy. To answer this question I have I used my XRF analyzer to test the composition of the metal. It turned out to be a special mild steel have, only 304 hp stainless steel. So my initial guess seems correct (marketing hype). Maybe they use a special top secret heat treatment process, but I doubt it. While I'm (slightly) disappointed that they don't use a new space age alloy, I'm happy to see they use stainless steel. It must withstand a humid environment, such as a bathroom, very well. LOAD CAPACITY: The hooks I received are rated at 25 lbs. If you look at the fine print, the listed weight rating is for 0.5 inch thick drywall in environments with no more than 50% relative humidity - in wetter environments it drops to 15 pounds due to loosening of the drywall. I checked this nominal load. with some drywall scraps I had. The only pry bar I had was 3/8" drywall (which is thinner than their recommendations), so I'm guessing the hooks in 0.5" drywall will hold more weight than my testing demonstrate. I also tested this in an environment with about 40% relative humidity. These hooks help to easily lift 25 pounds in my 3/8 inch drywall. So I don't expect any problems with 25 pounds in 0.5 inch thick drywall. At 40 pounds the hook was still holding, but barely. Any slight movement of the weight caused the hook to fail. drywall immediately. One of the photos I posted shows what the holes look like when you pull the dowel out on purpose versus when it breaks open due to overstressing. As you can see, even if the hooks are out of order, they pull themselves didn't leave a big hole in the drywall. This is in stark contrast to when traditional drywall anchors fail - they leave a huge hole in the drywall that you need to patch. It is also worth noting that after the hook became detached from the wall due to overloading, the hook was found intact and easily reusable.
