Unstable Start

When I bought this device I knew there were no perfect tracking collars. This is still possibly the best of a bunch of not-so-great options. If it works, it's great. Like others, we often get inaccurate reports of where dogs are (many feet away when they're close to us). It is not possible to change the default value (shock the dog) when using the tracking option. I prefer to "tone" first, but for that you need to go into the learn function, after which you have the option to choose an effect. The collar is often difficult to put on. We've learned that if you plug it back into the charger for about a minute and then try again, it starts up. But in the field where we don't have a charger, I'm afraid it won't work when we need it most. If the collar won't turn on, you can press 20 times and it won't turn on. But charge it back up for a minute, give it a quick press after removing it from the charger, and it miraculously turns on. So something is clearly wrong. We have 2 collars and both have this issue intermittently. All devices only work really well when they are simply unplugged from the charger. If you charge them and put them away overnight, the collars and remote will behave as if they weren't charged. Charging them at home, driving for a few hours, and then trying to get them to work seems risky. We have solar chargers and car chargers and plan to use them to avoid problems. So, it's really not quite ready for prime time, but when they work, they're great.
