The trackball does not replace the mouse. The mouse positions the cursor faster and more accurately. Therefore, with the acquisition of a trackball from a mouse, I did not refuse. But thanks to the use of a split keyboard, I was able to place the trackball in the center of the keyboard. Thanks to this, I can at the same time control the mouse and type without changing the position of the wrist: I do not have to move my hand to the mouse and back every time I need to click somewhere. It seems to be a trifle, but it is much more convenient when you get used to it. * I suffered with the problem that the trackball starts to spin with effort due to contamination of the rollers. A pulling force appears - it is impossible to move the cursor by one pixel, because to start the movement you need to apply a small effort, as a result, the ball moves in a jerk by several pixels. (Mouses have the same problem when the sliding surfaces are dirty and the cloth pad is not used.) The rollers, by the way, are tiny, three pieces. I even tried Teflon grease - it did not help. The manufacturer recommends lubricating with human fat - rubbing the rollers with your fingertips. And it works! First, I scrape the rollers with my fingernail to shake off the dirt. Dirt falls out onto the table through a large hole in the base of the trackball. Then I massage each roller with a fingertip. As a result, the trackball begins to spin without effort and spins a little by inertia, just as much as it should. The breaking force disappears almost completely. The procedure takes 30-60 seconds, and it lasts for one day. * PS In my photo, the trackball is sawn from the sides, in reality it is wider. PPS In the photo - "proof of concept". This is just the first prototype, that's why it looks so handicraft. In the next iteration, the trackball will be embedded in the base, its buttons will be moved down, the halves of the keyboard will be closer to each other (in the current version, you still have to move your wrist a couple of centimeters).
