Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Nikon L105 12.1 MP Digital Camera: High-quality shots with 15x Optical Zoom - Black by Buffy Foley

Definitely worth buying

The camera is much smaller than the pictures on the web show, the menus are harder to access and understand and NO photo editing software is included! What is included on CD is a photo viewer, panorama software and a CD-only instruction manual (the quick start guide is very limited). The Nikon image upload website does NOT have any photo editing features, I couldn't even find a place to add tags to images, although ratings and tags are easy to find. I'm sticking with Flickr. My 1st test images lacked color, were either washed out by oversaturated yellow, many were fuzzy and poor quality even with flash. I used the default "Light Auto" mode, but when I switched it to the normal "Auto" mode, the colors are more realistic, there's a full menu for white balance and other settings, although it's not at all intuitive. to these menus. Best of all, this is the easiest camera to use right out of the box without reading the user manual. Simply insert 4 AA batteries, switch on and off you go. The zoom is very strong and fast! It outperforms my pro DSLR in terms of speed and telephoto capabilities. The onboard memory is great to start with, but you'll need a memory card for more capacity, although it did take over 50 shots on the 6-megapixel setting with no issues using the camera's memory without a memory card installed. The flash manually pops up, presses down, and I don't see an easy way to access the settings unless you select one of the program modes and edit it there, skipping the shot if it's unexpected while you figure it out and set up shot. The burst feature is amazing, I was able to instantly create 3 GIFs from the resulting images without knowing what else to do with the 40+ shots of my cat licking his lips. I didn't realize it took multiple pictures, I accidentally pressed the shutter button and it wasn't until I looked at a later picture that I found over 40 pictures taken with a single button press! So the quality was extremely poor because I didn't have a flash or a tripod at the time. I look forward to experimenting with this feature as I know I do! However, the action images come out as sharp as a still photo. Not sure how blurry water/moving images can be done as opposed to stills, but being able to quickly snap a great quality picture of the action sells. The video is very easy to use, although there aren't any lighting settings like digital camcorders (low light, daylight, incandescent, etc.) but there are scene modes that deal with these situations, I'm just not sure what the settings are Flashes are applicable because you can't use a flash with video on Nikon. I will be testing the sound and low light to film a live band tomorrow night and will report the results later. One of my favorite features of this camera is the easily accessible functions right on the rear navigation buttons - macro photography, self shot. Timer, flash and EV setting, one-touch access to everything without having to scroll through menus to search. Delete button, playback button (to view previously captured images and then easily delete during playback or protect), menu and video buttons are located on the back. Zooming is done using the left/right slider in the top right corner of the camera. The battery compartment offers space for a memory card. Disliked aspects: This camera requires removing the lens cap to access menus or scene presets, or to view images to delete them. Since the camera does not use additional lenses or filters (e.g. to protect the lens), the lens is easily damaged and dirty. When I tried to take a close-up of my cat, his nose smeared the lens many times, as did condensation from his breath on it (he was examining him while I was filming, I didn't put him on his nose :) The camera size is much smaller than expected. The lens and LCD screens seemed huge to me in all the adverts and product information, but they're actually small, with the camera's light weight and a thinner plastic body than I'm used to. Overall I would recommend this camera for most beginner photographers, a portable option for watching sports and outdoor activities, or for those like me who have large DSLRs and want a cheap and fast option for video AND high quality photos if they all carrying other equipment is not required depending on the situation. My goal was to find a high quality video and camera in one device and I have tried many products (mainly camcorders that promised great photos but failed) and so far have been disappointed. If she can handle the loud bands I film she might even be loved, but if not I have a special camcorder that can do it.
