Review on πŸ“ž Enhance Your Telephone Recording with ECS-DUPR Telephone Record Adapter by Steven Mazie

Very flexible - Plug and Play - Good product - Works well

Read dozens of reviews of various "Universal Phone Recording Adapters" (UTA) and got nervous because of the many bad reviews function. I chose it because of the additional control scheme and good reviews. Also, this UTA proved very flexible - it could be used on a 'line' from a wall or line to the handset for an old phone - and it could record to a PC (using free software like Audacity) OR to digital Recorder with voice control. I liked the idea of a backup plan in case things went wrong. I called the company to confirm the installation settings outlined in the manual I downloaded from their website. A very nice English speaker from the US confirmed that the connection shown as "Wall/Line" should work better for me than a handset; and there should be no problems with the Panasonic Detect 6 Wireless Base or my OOMA VoIP Box. I may record a conversation I am participating in without notice. I need to review links, and instead of taking notes, I'd like to record my Q&A session. I installed Audacity on my PC, connected the PC line-in (stereo blue jack) to the UTA with the supplied stereo cable, connected the supplied splitter to my OOMA box, the Panasonic Detect 6.0 base to the splitter and the UTA connected to the included telephone cable. Turned the volume knob up to 8.5 (my guess on this parameter). I pressed record on Audacity, dialed the local time/temp phone number, and counted to 10 when "she" spoke. Both conversations were clear when the recording played. I am very hard of hearing, didn't wear hearing aids and the clarity was OUTSTANDING - I heard both conversations clearly. I noticed that I could immediately "export" the recording to a .wav file (this is my Win 10 computer), but trying to play the mp3 required an additional driver, which helped me with Audacity. Eventually I'll plug in my voice-activated digital voice recorder if I can find one and I'll be able to digitally record conversations straight away. There is nothing more to buy with this UTA kit - it comes with all the cables/connectors you need - a good kit. No documentation in the box or even directions on where to download the instructions; However, a Google search for "ECS-DUPR" found the company's product page on the site, which included a link to download the manual. I don't think this should diminish my appreciation for this excellent product, but a small 1-page post with a schematic, website address, and phone number would be a nice touch. Update #1: If you want to duplicate the settings I found to make Audacity work with good clarity, do this: 1. Set the UTA slider to 8.5.2. Download and install Audacity from the website.3. In Audacity, select "MME" as the driver, change Mic to "Line Input HD" and set the recording level to .70.4. Using speakerphone resulted in horrible sound of the recorded file - it is recommended NOT to use speakerphone during a call.5. Before making or answering a call, press the record button, when finished press the stop button. Play with the button "Play".6. To save the recorded file, select FILE >> EXPORT >> Export as MP3 >> Set Quality >> CRAZY 320 kbps, give it a filename. Note. When you create a WAV file, no additional Windows driver is required - the WAV file is created and will play directly in Windows 10. Update #2: Since I couldn't find my digital voice recorder, I turned my computer into a voice-enabled digital voice recorder with a few settings tweaks in Audacity. AT . Edit >> Settings >> Recording >>. Make the following changes (see attached photo): 1. Check Play >> Other Tracks., Disable Program Play via Input.2. Sound Activated Recording >> Check the Enable box (leave the default value of -50dB)3. Options >> Check the Always record new track box4. Press the "Record" button on the main screen to exit Audacity to "Wait" for all incoming and outgoing calls. You've turned your computer into a voice-activated digital voice recorder. Note. Be sure to change your PC's power setting to "Never Sleep" (Control Panel >> Power) when using your PC as an IC recorder. I am not sure if he will wake up from sleep to write. Warning: Some states allow you to record your conversation with another person without their consent (you must check your condition), but to record an adult (including spouse) conversation with another person if you do not participate in that conversation - This is illegal due to federal laws ABOUT HEARING. I've read people go to jail for it, even spouses! There are additional rules for recording criminal activity, but you will likely need an attorney to advise you on this. A NOTICE. The Audacity software is owned by a third party and not this vendor. Executive Communication Systems (ECS), if you have questions about software, you need to search the forum, wiki, manual and "google" for answers. Done, done - hopefully something here will help others and save them about 4 hours of "riot".
