The spider is visible when you open the lid. You have to move the lid quite a bit before it actually starts lifting out of the box. As a result, most people stop opening the lid as soon as they see a spider. It's a little scary, but not quite what I expected. It would be just as scary if the box was just a motionless fake spider. There are better versions of this where the spider is smaller and therefore pops up faster. They get maximum fear of them because the fake spider touches their finger before they even know it's a fake spider.
