This is the slowest and noisiest printer I have ever had. Every time you type it makes a horrible crackling sound and then makes a faint downward noise (reminds me of the sound effect of a rock falling on Wile E. Coyote) for about 20 seconds before it prints. The print quality is terrible. The words "sharp" and "clear" are not in the lexicon of whoever designed this printer. The scanning function is fast enough, but no matter how carefully you align the document on the glass, part of it will be cut off. Something is not calibrated here. I need to move the document away from the edges to actually include the whole thing. The scan quality is mediocre. The copier feature offers two-sided copying, but you can handle it Load the original into the copier tray from the top. You need to put it on the scanner glass, then flip it over manually and press next to get the other side. Otherwise, the copy function is okay, but the print quality is abysmal here too. I can't say anything about the fax function because I haven't used it. In terms of looks, it's chunky and not as comfortable to hold on a desk as my old sleek black HP. However, it doesn't really matter to me, and I know that others in this class might be even more unwieldy. The paper tray feels cheap and doesn't hold much. On the other hand it was very easy to set up and unlike some other printers I had no problems set up or maintain the wireless connection. The touchscreen works flawlessly and the menus are clear. This is the first Brother printer I've ever owned and overall I wasn't impressed. I wish I could return it while I could, but since I'm busy and didn't want to fiddle with a heavy, bulky thing I didn't. I won't make that mistake again. EDIT 8/7/19. I still hate it, but for a new reason: I've recently stopped leaving it on at night, but he still seems to enjoy staying up all night like a rebellious teenager, so although I've definitely turned it off completely have, from time to time suddenly makes a short mechanical noise. Unlike other printers I had, the power cord doesn't disconnect from the printer, so every night I had to crawl under and behind my desk to unplug it to stifle the occasional noise that startles me when I'm trying to sleep. . I probably, will never solve the mystery of why this thing makes noise when it's 100% off. Two stars reduced to one. Never again brother. Two stars reduced to one. Never again brother. Two stars reduced to one. Never again brother.
